A “remarkable transformation” in the character of Lord Nelson has been detected by examining his handwriting before and after the loss of his right arm. The change is observed in a report commemorating the 198th anniversary of the amputation tomorrow.
 
The Admiral’s hand during his early years apparently discloses an impatient, hard taskmaster but after the operation he became a pleasure to work for. “He was able to communicate on an intimate level, permitting the softer side of his nature to surface,” says Olivia Graham, graphologist, “and became consciously considerate to the needs of those around him.”
